Extension Home Care
Simple habits that keep your extensions soft, tangle-free, and lasting as long as possible between appointments.
Washing
- Brush extensions before washing to remove all tangles.
- Split hair into multiple sections to ensure a thorough cleaning.
- Use a sulfate- and paraben-free shampoo and conditioner.
- Apply shampoo to the roots with plenty of water to emulsify — shampoo twice.
- Apply conditioner from the chin down, then massage into the scalp. Conditioner for weft extensions is a must to avoid matting at the roots.
- Rinse thoroughly to prevent build-up and itching.
- If using purple shampoo, dilute it with your everyday shampoo. It can turn blonde extensions ashy or violet — use monthly, at your own risk.
- Keep a good wash cycle — natural oils can cause slipping of extension beads.
Brushing
- Hold contact points securely against your head as you brush.
- Work from ends up to the roots, avoiding the base of the extensions.
- Brush often, ideally when hair is mostly dry.
- Use a proper extension brush (GlowBeauty Brush or Wet Brush).
Swimming
- Wet hair with tap water and apply leave-in conditioner before swimming; rinse and reapply leave-in after.
- A loose braid or hair fully up is best while swimming.
- Avoid chemical sunscreens near the hairline — they can discolor extensions. Use mineral-based sunscreen instead.
- Chlorine and salt water can affect the integrity and color of extensions — go under water at your own risk.
Products
Use professional products recommended by your stylist to preserve the integrity of your extensions. Ask about our extension take-home kit: Oi Shampoo & Conditioner, Oi Milk, and Oi Oil.
Drying & Styling
- Apply Oi Milk or Dede all over, then Oi Oil on the ends. Follow with any additional styling products.
- Rough-dry to about 80% before using a round brush. Pulling too hard can cause tension, bead slipping, or breakage.
- A loose braid or ponytail is best for sleeping — never go to bed with wet hair.
